Hi,

Currently I got ich breakout in my DT and I am quarantining all my fishes in a QT tank, while my tank is running fallow. Meanwhile I have been thinking of adding more fishes to the tank. To be more specific, adding more fishes that are sensitive to Cu treatment and time it in a way where I can add them once the fallow period ends. With that said, I want to add these fishes: Six Line Wrasse, Black Leopard Wrasse, Royal Gramma, Flame Angelfish, Green Dragonet, Mandarin Dragonet, and Diamond Goby (though this fish is not Cu Sensitive, it needs sand and I can't have it in the QT tank if I go copper route).

I want to add these fishes alongside my other QT fishes and then not buy any fish at all for a while. With that said, what would be your best suggestion to properly QT these fishes? Are these fishes only sensitive to Cu or should I be careful about Prazi/H2O2 bath/ etc. Please let me know and thank you so much for your input.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

First, not all copper products are created equal - ionic copper are the products that cause more sensitivity in fishes. Amine chelated copper like coppersafe and copper power are better tolerated, and don’t need to be ramped up slowly, or used at a lower dose. All of the fish you listed can go through 30 days of amine chelated copper at 2.25 ppm.

However, as you noted, some species like dragonets and diamond gobies have more stringent tank requirements and are more delicate overall.

I have a list of medication sensitive fish here:

Here is my basic quarantine protocol;
