Actually, your conversation is very Interesting to read and very helpful. Thank u.Actually 4 but they are decapods, not a true shrimp as we generally think to be. You have the Regular (Stenopus hispidus), Yellow (Steponus cyanoscelis), Blue (Steponus tenuirostris), & Gold (Steponus zanzibaricus). ***Spelling might not be spot on...argh***
They are somewhat territorial and can kill and eat shrimp.
They can be kept with fishes and some will even clean fishes as the one I have tries to do. lol.
They can be kept with corals and other inverts. But they can and sometimes will pinch/tear up corals as well as anemones.
Some say they are reef safe but they are not really considered a good choice for any mixed or reef tanks. I recommend caution and observation as I have seen one of my old ones tear a skunk cleaner shrimp apart and eat it.
Don't ever keep two in a tank unless you bought a mated pair. The female will usually be the larger one.
With this said, I guess I lucked out with the one I have presently.
Hope this helped.
