Hi everyone! I just got two GSP frags at 15 bucks apiece, a great deal for my area, and that got me thinking. What does everyone pay for coral in their area? Here's mine-
GSP-25 dollars a frag
Bulb Anemones-60 dollars for small one
Montipora -65 dollars a frag
Green hammer- 85 dollars for a 2 inch coral

I'm in central Idaho

Anyone chime in if you want to!

I know a few LFS owners personally

All have told me the standard is a 300% markup from whatever they buy it for from wholesalers.

So why can't I buy wholesale, dag gone it? You have to be a State-registered biz that they can extend a line-of-credit to....plus you have to have a minimum order of like $250 or $500 every time you order.

Wholesalers price goes up due to supply n demand. Sometimes major price jump bc collection-n-wholesaling is banned in certain parts of the world that was NOT banned 24mos ago. Dang One-World-Gov-Treehuggers....don't get me started :/

As the Wholesalers shift pricing so does the retail market....

So.....if a LFS buys a coral for $33....they charge $100 to cover all the costs of running a brick-n-morter biz.

Even at a 300% markup....they are making a very slim profit on some corals that sit around for months. Real profit comes from turning inventory QUICKLY. But that's hard to predict what people want to buy the week it lands in the LFS tank

Don’t forget there are other places than your LFS. You can find other reefers, find someone with GSP, xenia, some leathers or zoas in their tank and I bet you could get some for free. Typically here I see this.
GSP - $10
Acans - $25-40
Rose BTA 2-3” - $40
Rainbow BTA - $60
Zoas - $25-60
Chalices - $40-60
Monti Cap - $10
Acros - $20-40 frags, $60-100 mini colonies
Of course there are many other variables. Some insane rainbow zoa frag with a dozen polyps on it is obviously going to be much more than 4 polyps of Eagle Eyes or Rastas. A bounce mushroom is a couple hundred dollars versus a fast growing discosoma. A true Colorado Sunset or Black Widow BTA is multiple times as much as a normal nice rainbow or rose bubble tip.

Ouch. I guess we are fortunate here to have a few new smaller places selling corals. I would say in Delaware...
GSP 5-10
Acans 10-30
BTA 30
Zoas 5-infinity if you like designers
Monti caps 10-20
Acro frags 10-25
Could also probably get the green hammer for 25

I’m in South Florida and there’s probably about 8-10 nice saltwater stores within a 40 minute radius of me. GSP is usually $10 for like a 2” frag. Basic red or green monti frag is usually about $15-$20 for a 2” frag. Green hammers are usually about $30-$50 a head. Also acros and such go for about $40-$70 depending on the frag but usually 2”-3”. But then there are always centerpiece or showstopper pieces or big colonies that go for $500+.

Wanna hear austrian prices?

Sadly in euro,

Gsp 20€

Rbta 30-50€

Acan 30-40€

Hammer/torch 30-50€

Acro frags 30€

What i see here is zoas being ***** expensive. I dont find some under 40€. But fragsizes are generally bigger here since the hobby is less common. So less frags, bigger chunks.
