Hey guys, I’ve had this coral for 6 years. Came with a tank I bought and only had 1 head. Well fast forward 6 years and 100 heads later, I’m moving to a bigger tank. I moved a bunch, fragged some and then traded the remaining colony to a local buddy. Problem is I don’t know what it is. I don’t think it’s a frog spawn, hammer, torch or octo. Does anyone know? I posted the colony I traded and some of the Frags. Thanks!!!

Could be a "Frammer". A combination of a hammer and frogspawn. A torch only has one polyp on each tentacle.

Wow thanks. Never heard of cristata/grape before. Definitely a torch relative. Maybe I should’ve asked for more money lol.

From what I have seen they are not necessarily more valuable then torches or hammers with similar coloration.

Yeah makes sense. The torch prices are insane now but they are much longer. I can see why people like them.

I have a purple, lemongrass, several lime and neon green torches that have forked tenticles. More than one tip on one tenticles. My cristadas only have one tip per tenticles. That's much prettier than mine. I want one. Lol

Cristata have a unique skeleton with these ridges. Is that what yours looks like?

I think so. It never really closes up fully but when I was transporting it the skeleton popped the bag. It looked similar to that. That’s the same way my branching bubble coral looks.

I just read the article. Doesn’t really sound like mine. Small colonies of only a few heads? Mine was ~100. Plus it grew towards the light from the bottom all the way to the top of the water column. I’m starting to think it may be something else.

I’m leading towards frammer now. Found this article that looks exactly like it.

I'm leaning toward paraancora hammer.

IMO This is not a torch it’s a type of frog spawn

I don’t think so. Pics on google show a more oval shaped tip. These are round.

Here’s another pic…
I have some plain paraancoras that have a more torch like appearance since they've grown. Maybe my system but with my cristadas the skeleton is visible like grooves the tentacles ride in. I'm stumped but it's not cristada like I've seen. I'd love to have one. Also the growth pattern is steering me away from cristada . I like it so much I don't really care what it is. Very cool. Good job growing it.

Cristatas, along with the rest of the euphyllias, usually don’t come in that color scheme. Those colors are seen more in fimbriaphyllia. Cristatas also have shorter branches and thicker tentacles. I’d say that it’s an aberrant hammer.
