What is the best way to get coraline algae? I've heard of scraping some off a existing rock into my tank. Also heard about purple up? Just wondering what's the best approach to this.

Time. Coralline algae is the result of a well established tank. Once you pass the new tank stage you will see more of a variety as far as algae is concerned. Look at it this way, you're basically growing rocks. If I had to grow a rock I don't think it would be done over night. Also calcium plays a huge role into how well it will flourish.

Forgot to mention. You should put some coralline in there. If you can already see some present I wouldn't mess with it to much. A lot of people with buy turbo snails to get the spores. Seeing as most LFS with have some shape or form of coralline in most of their tanks.

Scraping or putting a rock in that's already covered will get you there quicker I think. Keep your Alk stable above 8DKh and the coralline will come.
I've heard/read from many that say purple up products were a waste.

Yes, i current have small green spots of algae on the rocks now. I will go pick up a rock with coralline and scrape some into my tank.
