For all the posts I read about how to get coralline algae and will each of the bottled additives work.
I am in need of assistance …
Today is glass scraping day and I personally hate this stuff .

Just finished scraping and scrubbing all the frag racks next is the side and back glass .
after is heaters and pumps …

the back glass is layers of coralline green algae

the coralline algae in the frag racks was almost 1/4” thick

Ive never had coralline as I regulated calcium, lighting and having my favorite astreas love to hang on the back wall and keep it clean. A tuxedo urchin munches on this but drag half the tank along the way

Curious how you regulate calcium and lighting so coralline doesn’t happen ?

I already have 3 urchins

From anything I have ever read or experienced coralline algae is that one thing we can’t control where it grows and it requires calcium , alkalinity and lighting to grow .
as long as the spores are introduced cleaning the glass often is the only way to avoid it .

how does one regulate calcium and light ?
These are both required for a successful reef

I keep calcium at lower part of scale and low in white intensity

This cheap grow light can grow cheato , and coralline algae

People say metal halides don’t promote coralline algae as much as T5’s or LED’s and I find that true on the rock in my system. But still I get vigorous growth on the side and back glass especially where there’s some shading. So I just have to scrape regularly. Where I can’t scrape very well the coralline grows well. It’s just what I have to do.
