Good morning everyone!
I'm a new reefer, about 10 months in and most of the corals that I've bought in that time have died. They're all soft corals that are supposed to be easy to grow. The only exception is my GSP which hasn't grown at all, and a Blastomussa (which I believe is LPS) that's actually happy and growing. I'll share as much relevant information as I can and would love to hear some suggestions on what to do next! Note that my clowns and CUC all seem to be fine, and no big issues with algae or anything growing out of control. My CUC really stays on top of everything!
Tank: 55 Gallon w/20 Gallon Sump.
Lights: Noopsyche K7 V3
Filtration: Filter socks, skimmer, carbon, refuge
Current readings:
Salinity (SG): 1.026
PH: 7.91
Ammonia: 0
Nitrate: 10ppm
Alkalinity: 8.3 DKH
Calcium: 395ppm
Magnesium: 1200ppm
Phosphate: 0 - trace
Temperature: 25.3
There hasn't been any major events or fluctuations, everything seems to be stable. Because I have corals that don't have high requirements I keep the par between 50 -75, depending on coral placement. I haven't tried increasing the light intensity.
The one issue I do have is time! I can generally stay on top of maintenance, but I haven't done any water changes. I'll need to find a way to either automate that or dose eventually. I haven't done an ICP test, but I'm wondering if that's the next step?
Another note, I always quarantine everything, and they seem to do fine during that period in a little 10 gallon tank, but the problems start to happen a month or so into the DT.
Please let me know if there's any other details you need! And thank you so much!!
