Corals on the back glass

Anyone tried growing corals on the back glass of their tanks? Which corals would work/look the best? Any tips?

I had encrusting monti on my overflow before ...anything that encrust should cover well

I did plating monti and monti digi. It was hard because the back is glass, I glued stemless frag plug to the back glass, but it wasn't easy. Superglue won't hold for long and the typical epoxys are not sticky, they just get hard. I finally bought some "mr stickies underwater expoxy" from fosters and smith. Takes forever to dry underwater, so I put superglue on half and this expoxy on the other half. Couple days later it was on there great and I attached the coral. No issues with corals and clams from mr stickys as the tank was running.

I removed them couple years later, coral popped off easy but the epoxy was still strong. Razor blade got it off just fine though.

If you have a plastic back tank or overflow it's easy! The glass is harder.

As you can see in the pic the toadstool is very large compared to the plate that I glued I only used a little bit of super glue gel and it has been holding for about 2 months now

The entire back glass and internal overflow if my 5 foot 100G was covered with zoanthids with one small section of zenia on one top corner. Made it easy to frag and kept the zenia off the rocks. Also had a couple colors of monti caps on there at one time too.

i have put acros on the overflow without issue grew just fine i have a few right now encrusing all over the place . i did/do have a few on the glass but they are on magnets as they were supposed to be temporary... need to get rid of them if i can stop being lazy about it

I did gsp on my back wall. Really adds motion and brings the tank to life! I also did meteor shower.

Just be sure to cut a cover for your overflow that'll shad the teeth. Such a pain to remove something encrusting between overflow teeth.

If it's something that will encrust, start it low or it may shade itself out.

I grew gsp on the overflow of an old tank I had, and on my current tank, i use magnetic airline/hose clips to mount corals to the glass.

I use Aqua Mags to put Acros, Birdsnet, Efflos and Caps on my glass and overflow. I like being able to move frags if they aren't doing well in a spot.

Magnets ftw. There's a company mag rocks or something, they sell fake live rock that magnets on specifically for the purpose.

I had a cyphastrea big paper plate size but it got shaded out and stn d. Not I have some hydnophora Monti and mummy eye chalice. And some different cyphastrea too.

Sounds like you guys have tried a lot of cool stuff. I am liking the magnetic plug idea. I will likely just try glue first. But, first I have to figure out what will look the best. If anyone has more pictures or tips I would love to see/hear them.

I like the magnet plugs as well here's one with a Monti on it.
