CRACKED SKELETON

So I tried to take an octospawn off the rock and I guess I squeezed it too hard so the skeleton cracked all the way to the flesh so I super glued some of the skeleton back. Is it going to survive? This thing was not cheap and I am really scared.

Its a new frag and I put it in the tank immediately to not stress it any further but they way I glued it makes the crack face the back of the tank so I can't take any pics. I really shouldve put that into consideration. dang

You’ve done all you can do, just leave it alone now assuming it’s in a spot it was happy before. I’ve seen some survive though, they can rebuild their skeleton.

its next to a frogspawn, octospawns and frogspawns are the same right? They wont sting each other?

Yeah, frogspawn, octospawn and hammers are all fine to be together.

Man I read the original post way to fast. I thought he cracked his octopuses skull and superglued it back. I hope you’re coral heals.

Here's an update 6 hours later... How are things looking for it? It has puffed up its tentacles a little bit, earlier there were shrunken in a flacid

I also have cracked my Torch .... its super glued in the back and the front.... this was like 2 months ago..... the torch is doing fine ... i am concerned about his ability to split?

I havent moved him...i think i should eventually remove the super glue but i am too scared....probably best to leave him alone. It kinda looks like hes even trying to split

You used bone cutters, to remove from a semi-permanent mount on live rock, to remove for a dip?

Yes. I tried to remove by hand and felt the amount of pressure I was at was not worth the risk of crushing the base. I did this once to a NY Nicks torch and was blown away by how brittle the base actually was.

I dip everything that goes into my tank and toss the plugs. Sps, nems and softies have all went through a 13min bayers dip.

I did however just learn, to request frags without a plug or have it removed prior to pickup till I buy a saw

Ok so the skeleton is structural but if you can repair it, and the crack didn’t cause internal cuts / damage, you should be fine. I don’t know what glue you used but superglue is good for repairs like this because they form a strong wall that keeps bacteria out.

I have cut wall hammers in half and created superglue walls as a man made skeleton.

Leave it alone and watch it, if anything looks wrong be prepared with materials on hand to dip. KFC dip is king but requires many ingredients. Some harder to find. But proven success and worth to keep in your reef toolbox in case needed for fighting infection

AWESOME! I have the ingredients for 2 more KFC dips and I also used the gorilla glue (green cap) to seal the crack. I hope it pulls through!
