My 45g has been set up for about 2weeks now.I have a ton of diatoms, they cover a good portion of the sand, and are all over the rock.I was wondering what would be a good clean up crew.I want to do all snails, because hermits are rough on coral.I plan to add part of the cuc next weekend.

I like a mix of small cerrith and trochus snails with a cucumber. The cerriths come out at night, I have 300-400 in my tank. I get them from reefcleaners.org and the trochus are like astreas except if they flip over, they can right themselves. I like the yellow cucumbers. Mine is constantly mopping up the sandbed.

I will give you a really good contact

Larry at www.underwateroutlet.com. He has LOTS of great cleaners and very very good price. My local club has done at least 8 - 10 group buys with him with NO PROBLEMS whatsoever.

He will help you decide which critters will serve your purpose best too.

well i know everyone hates them it seems... but i have several mexican turbos and LOVE them. they are great cleaners and can cover large areas. but only downfall is you have to make sure your corals are attached well so they dont knock stuff over...

I think you're going to need more than that. The cerriths are tiny. A rule of thumb I use for them is 2-3 per gallon. They live in the sandbed during the day and come out when the lights go out. I'd get at least 6 of the other snails you have listed.

gotta do mexican red legged hermits (Clibanarius digueti) , they are by far some of the best algae eaters there are, they even eat cyano and red slime... imho snails are worthless (just my opinion)

DO YOU THINK TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS ARE MORE HELPFUL OR HURTFUL TO REEFING?
