Thinking about getting a sea cucumber, i have heard that they clean sand really well, i already have nassarius snails but i heard these clean better. I need some opinions.

I'd like to follow this. I've heard that cukes can nuke your tank if/when they die, so I believe some care needs to be used here, but they are cool looking critters for sure. I'm including things like sea apples here too.

Sounds good, ive heard that some types are easier to care for than others and that some types dont nuke tanks, is that correct, i have very little knowledge on cucumbers

I had a tiger tail for quite a while. Mine split and I would find pieces in the socks and one even made it all the way to a sump chamber. It did a decent job cleaning sand when I could see it working. I'm not sure what happened but they all eventually disappeared.

They do get big. Gobys are what I prefer for sand maintenence. I never have to touch the sand. I do have to blow off rocks occasionally from their constant movement of the sand.
I wish i could get a sand cleaning goby, particularly a diamond one but i only have a 32 gallon tank and ive seeen those things get massive

They clean well and over decades ive yet to see one nuke a tank. Theyre a recycling machine. . . food source in one end and waste from the back end
Strawberry conchs do a good job also with sand

Yes they can get big. I have a pair of yellow headed slepper gobies in my 35 and a dragon goby which is 5" in my 50.
A pair is better than one just get them small.

I have a 32g with a diamond and he is just perfect. He was one of my original CUC. Just make sure a) you have places, plural, for him to burrow, and b) you don’t mind sand getting everywhere because they move it a lot (aka why we have nicknamed ours “Bob the Builder”)😂😂

I have a couple, a tiger tail and a black one.

The black one does a nice job walking around and pooping sand granules.

The tiger tail wedges itself into a rock and just “extends” and really just cleans around its perimeter.

I don’t think I’ve seen it ever after introduction. I checked the rock after a month it was still there. Not sure where it is now.
