Hi all,

I am thinking to start adding coral to my new tank. I like fast growing coral and thinking to add some easy SPS as a start such as birdnest and montipora. Curious how the growth progress for others.

Show me your easy SPS growth progression, picture please!

I love monti caps so much. They look awesome and are just so rewarding. Tank just woke up, so lots of blues.

That purple stylo unfortunately is mostly bleached/burned right now. Increased my LED intensity and realized way too late why it was dying. It has grown quite a lot as well...

Oh... I have an ATI hybrid fixture, don't do any water changes and I'm too lazy to properly set up my dosing unit (or even test regularly). Sometimes my alk drops to ~ 7, sometimes it's all the way up to ~ 10. I probably still have very high nutrients, but again, I haven't tested for them in like 6 months or so. I'd say these are pretty hardy.

Fastest growing coral is my purple stylo. I dont have a first pic as it was placed in the back of my rockwork and grew up from their. It went from a 2" frag to this in 10 months.
It is bigger than it looks and is almost touching the back wall.
The ASD rainbow milli is right up their too. It went from a 2" frag to what you see in under 6 months.
System is a 120 2.5 years old now.

Hey this is really interesting. Anacopora growth in such a neat manner. Similar to my neat seriatopora.

I wonder what's the reason behind it.
Probably lighting and flow patterns?

I started with a couple easy SPS like digi's (or Montipora samarensis, I guess now?)

Here was my just purchased Bubble Gum digi frag on Dec. 30th 2020.

Here is that same Bubble Gum digi on Dec 12th of 2021, so just under a year later.

After this one did so well, I went out and got a blue and green digi also. Only had them about a month now. Hopefully they show similar growth in a year.

Probably, but I would think there will be many more having light and flow conditions similar to me or you, and see more of these neat patterns in otherwise messy corals

By any chance, do you feed a lot?
I feed my 11 fish a lot but only throw in 1 cup of homegrown phytoplankton everyday - no other coral foods.

Do you you feed your corals a lot?

Montipora Spongodes has got to be one of the fastest growing SPS corals. I started with a small frag of this and in a 2 1/2 years I had a huge 12” plate that I was knocking the perimeter off almost weekly to keep it from encroaching on other corals. Super cool coral with plating, encrusting, and branching growth and also very easy to keep.

Very cool! How did you get your Spongodes to grow like that? Mines always going straight up and not out.

I'm not sure.. It started out encrusting the rock until it got to the edge then it started to plate. I always wanted it to grow more vertical spires, they didn't come until maybe the second year. It was getting a ton of light and flow, maybe that's why it kept more of a flat plating growth.
