Anyone have an explanation for torches curling? Seems happy, splitting and extended but the one head will randomly curl it’s polyps once in a while. I’d actually prefer it to have some curl to them, makes it look funky!

Most of my torches do that regularly… some more so than others. Usually see it when they are about to expel algae or right after feeding.
Nothing to worry about…

i have a hammer and torch doing that right now as well. been doing it for about 2-3 weeks now. Showed my lcs (local coral store) and they said I have a couple happy healthy corals. I have tried searching for euphyllia behavior threads and videos and can’t find much of anything to explain what these things are doing. sometimes in the hobby I just have to be comfortable with not knowing the reason.

When I feed my torches, I have a chance to view them from above and can watch them curl as the food floats down onto the tentacles. It’s actually quite fun to watch. They do it with both coral feast and mysis. I think they are moving the captured food to their mouth (at least that’s my explanation).
My guess is that they deflate some and hence curl as one side retracts faster than the other…
