Hi all. My tank is 2' deep. Do you guys reckon a Current USA Orbit Marine LED light is enough for some SPS? If so, what kind? Thanks :)

IMO I don't think its strong enough even on a shallow tank.
It's okay for LPS, but would strongly recommend getting a good quality light.

I own this light and it was fine starting out but you'll soon find the need to upgrade.

I currently have this light on standard 29g, 18" high. Montipora, Birdsnest and Setosa placed on top and thriving. I want to upgrade maybe the Pro version or something similar.

True the orbit marine may not cut it. You would have to place the sps at the very top
Now I did grow out monties with this fixture at about 10" from the light.
If you want that style I would look into the orbit pro lights

I see. Thanks guys. I'll probably stick with LPS for now. So if I want to upgrade, what should I pay attention to? I've read something about PAR but am a bit confused about what it does or why it's important.

I have that light on a 18 inch deep tank. I have anemone in there now and one acro. I got the acro for 5 dollars and it was brown when I first got it and now it green and growing nicely. The pic is 2 weeks from getting to present day.

Excellent question!
PAR is something that is a little hard to understand between the lighting and the corals needs
I would suggest jumping on Orpheks website and start poking around. They give excellent charts per spectrum.

Hi @zeeGGee, I've tried in the past few month running it at lower than 80% but my LPS on the bottom didn't like it (my tank is 24" tall) So now I run both at 100% and they seem to be happier. IMO I think the you should run both at least at 80% minimum. Hope it helps ;)

Hmmm strange. Cos my timer runs faster than real-time, so I contacted them and my new timer is on its way now.

  • Dear Hobbyist,
Thank you for contacting Current-USA, Inc.

As it turns out, your light shows signs of water/salt damage. Water/salt damage is not covered under warranty. The IR sensor is a non-replaceable part.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact us again.

    Thank you,
    Current-USA, Inc.
Here is there answer
