Cut holes in canopy for lights

Setting up a 5( gallon tank. Want to do simple corals. Thinking of cutting holes in canopy and putting in 2 or 3 single puck ai’s. Anyone do this? Thoughts? The canopy is only 6-7 “ above roof of tank. Trying to maximize light height. Thanks.
 
Hard to imagine without pictures. You have any? Is there a reason for the canopy if it's not holding the lights?
