Cut off the dead heads or leave them

I got this candy cane for next to nothing. Just wondering if I should cut off the dead sections or just leave it alone?

I would cut off any easily accessed dead heads to give growing room for the live ones. I would steer clear of the ones close to the live ones because in my experience candycane crushes easily and my damage live heads.
