Need to trim this thing back and now it’s grown on to 2-3 larger rocks. In the past I would remove the rock and cut the coral outside the tank. I’d like to cause as little stress as possible to reduce the chemical release from the coral. I have carbon ready but I don’t want to use it if I don’t have to, my tank doesn’t do well with carbon (dunno why, just doesn’t)
What in your opinion would be the best method of cutting inside the tank? It’s about the same size as a miniature basketball for reference.

I'd only cut a coral, any coral, inside the tank for one reason, because I couldn't get it out. Taking a coral out of the water isn't really all that stressful, especially if you pay attention and do whatever you can to keep it moist and get it back in the water as timely as you can. I've had corals out of the water for 15 to 20 minutes and they get upset. They may not open up right away, but in the long run they're just fine.

Should b fairly easy to get a plastic blade in between the flesh and the rocks and peel the base off the 2 so you can remove it from the tank to frag.
If you cant remove and end up fragging in tank u must run carbon...these guys get angry/slimy .
