Is cyanide still as widely used for collecting wild fish as it was in the past. I was thinking about this the other day when the copperband in my tank mysteriously died. Is there a complete list of fish that may be caught this way?

I believe we still see a lot of it. This is a good question for @Jay Hemdal and @vetteguy53081 if they have a chance to reply.

Cyanide use has dropped in some countries, but has increased elsewhere. The fish trade will often say there is no longer an issue, but they have a vested interest in obscuring the truth.

Because the supply chain isn't at all transparent, it is difficult to know where the issues lay. Also, the supply chain is highly dynamic, so changes take place all of the time.

Here is my best estimation of the current status for various exporting areas:

Thanks Jay. I suspect its still alot more prevalent as you stated. I've had some fish die that fit the symptoms of cyanide collection.
