Hello everyone, recently I have been dealing with cyano. It’s been a hard battle to fight and keeps coming back. Nutrients have been on the lower side, nitrate 3-5ppm, and phosphate has been 0-.03 (been dosing to make sure it doesn’t bottom out). I’ve also read that flow is a massive contributor to cyano issues.

A couple weeks ago, I purchased a BTA that lives on the back of a trochus (so a highly mobile bta). I put a mesh bag over the PH to ensure it wouldn’t get sucked in, then later purchased a cover for the PH because the bag was collecting a lot of food. I feel like covering the PH has significantly reduced the strength of its output, thus making the cyano thrive a little more. I purchase a random flow nozzle for my return pump, which has helped a bit. Anyone have suggestions on what I should do about flow, or just beating cyano in general?

I just used chemiclean. Cyano is gone. I battled it for a month trying all natural ways. I have a 60g sps dominant tank. 3 mp40’s. Flow wasn’t an issue. I too dose neophos and neonitro to keep nutes up. Corals all seem fine after the dose. I’m now dosing microbacter7 daily.

Check Hygger for some inexpensive flow pumps that will help but I’ve found it’s better to increase return flow in addition to more flow from pumps within the display. I’ve also found that corals respond better with increased return flow and like the previous person mentioned, Chemi clean will knock it out in 3 days or less. Chemi clean is also good for bacteria prevention so it’s not a bad thing to add twice a year as a preventative measure.
