Any ideas for shifting a small cyano outbreak my local lfs told me to remove my activated carbon I have in the sump as it feeds cyano is this correct I’m not sure

Incorrect, maybe change out the carbon but don’t remove. I can only assume you misunderstood their advice or they didn’t hear your question properly?

Then they are wrong, AC is not causing Cyano. Best solution is consistent manual removal with wc, turkey basting, flow and detritus removal. Avoid any chemical solution just better maintenance.

No one really knows exactly why cyano happens in our tanks, no one can give any one singular reason for it.
