Hi everyone,
New reefer here and I’ve finally made it to the point of adding water. I’m doing my sand and scape this week and making Rodi water as we speak. I have been building this tank since May gathering the exact equipment I wanted and even built my own custom stand, and hard plumbed the whole thing myself. ( happy to show pictures). So now it’s come to the main event adding saltwater. I checked my bulkheads and plumbing with tap while running my return pump and it worked perfectly no leaks
(thank goodness). So now I’m about to make rodi water and mix my salt and I have a few questions
1. I have a fuge section and a nice fuge light at what part of the cycle do I turn that on?
2. Is this when I add all my equipment, (ie skimmer, power heads, filter socks, heaters, apex brain/ probes, Tunze ato )
3. When do I add marine pure or charcoal to the tank?
4. I’ve read a few books and tons of these forums but how often do I test the water once filled and during the cycle what parameters are most important?
5. Lastly do I add the dr Tim’s, food, or whatever I am using to start the cycle right away or wait till water warms up/ so on?
Thank you to anyone who reads this and can help. Being a freshwater guy for years have a salt tank has always been a dream. So I’m very excited to get this started. 1976179B-CA0C-4205-876E-61DC5471619E.jpeg 455D0498-08C6-4011-82F6-88F43BF2A94A.jpeg 3FF86878-B226-420A-A37F-CC8512EF8BBE.jpeg 4166DD84-F44C-402D-A844-5674E5ADCCBE.jpeg A17EF49A-0FF4-4B32-A255-BCD5B9AB0755.jpeg 30776110-7387-41FC-8931-D0ACC2950602.jpeg 4AAE5696-1B77-405F-A958-3D08A89FF9A7.jpeg 0385A7CC-8254-4234-B59E-843522288C8E.jpeg

Don’t turn lights Or skimmer On yet, nor the fuge and don’t add carbon.
Add the saltwater allow to settle for a day and get to room temp, then turn on heaters. Get to temp add bacteria then the ammonia...
Dr Tim actually recommends running low salinity and higher temp during cycle but this isn’t followed by the majority.

ps. I’m assuming you’re using dry rock
