Hello all. New to the reef hobby, but I've kept high tech planted tanks and have done a lot of research and I have a strong basic science background.
I'm moving across the country in June and have a question.. I want to start a tank as soon as possible when I move so I plan on getting a 5-10 gallon bucket, 40 pounds of "dead" rock on Amazon(put however much of it will fit in bucket), heater, live sand, powerhead, AI prime light and cycling it in a bucket (measuring ammonia, nitrate, nitrite) until it's cycled and then transporting it across the country (temp will be 70-95 degrees) just in the bucket (possibly in wet newspaper) to minimize time starting it up. I plan on getting IM 25 lagoon when there.
This is an abnormal thing to do which I realize, but it should work. Just wondering if people have thoughts on this. I figure there won't be too much die off of the LR with transporting it in those temperatures/time frame and I should be established and ready to add coral/fish in a week or so versus waiting 4-6 weeks cycling the traditional way.
