people have different ways for that. once the digestion test has passed, size of the tank really matters. In nano reefs we make things easy by doing a huge water change, all of it where possible, so the nitrate from all the digest testing isn't built up (more early algae food)
our thread shows that once you are cycled and verified, no amnt of water changes can harm your bac. you are free to change as much as you want to get nitrates in check.
Others filter them out/people like to cycle with MarinePure blocks which are notoriously nitrate-hungry when they themselves are seeded and cycled, a couple mos after submersion typically. they work too. others polyfilter the water back to a starting point.
