My tank has been up and running for almost 2 years. I have never had any problem with Cyno. I have been doing the same for feeding, water changes(every 4-6 weeks) and 2 part the whole time. All of a sudden I have a cyno outbreak.

Things that could have caused it:
1. increased my flow a little in the tank which pushed some sand around more than normal
2. I need new MH lights. They are about a year old. Have them, haven't put them in yet.
3. haven't changed my carbon in my sump for 2 months.
4. been 8 months since I changed the filters in my RO/DI

Any suggestions on what could be the problem??

at the first sign of cyano I highly recommend killing your lights for a few days until the cyano dies off.

Do more water changes and try to manually remove it. Blow with a turkey baster then remove the stuff

2 and 3 2 month's on carbon? not trying to be a ***. but what are you thinking i change carbon every 2 week's on my brs recator i fill one chamber all the way and new light will be very good for your problem
