Damaged Scoly, will he survive ?

Hi,

Two days ago I bought a damaged scoly from my lfs, it's my first scoly. My tank is now running for almost 2 years, water parameters are stable (alk : 8,5 NO3 : between 2 and 5 ppm PO4 : between 0,02 and 0,04 ppm Ca : 430 ppm salinity : 1,025 and Mg : 1350) and everything is thriving in the tank. So I put the scoly in a low flow low light area of my tank. You can see some pictures of the scoly, at night his "feeding tentacules" are out, he seems to eat a bit of meaty food with reef roids. The mouth of the scoly is usually closed as it should be, it's unlucky that I took the first picture when the mouth was open... I dose daily amino acids from RedSea.

Any advices on how to heal the scoly are more than welcome :) ! Do you think that the scoly is really heavily damaged ?

Hi - welcome! your parameters looks good. With my experience with Scolies, it does not like high PO4. I don't think it is heavily damaged, it is not happy though. I would keep it like you stated in low flow and feed it but not too much.

Hello guys, Here are some pictures of the Scoly after a few weeks. During the day he seems to be healthy, during the night he turns into "feed mode" and I can still see some parts of his skeleton. I hope he will make it through :D He is eating a lot.

Very beautiful coral. I like to keep scoly’s also. I recall an article where they suggested keeping the temperatures at 76° for 77°. When I lowered the temperature I saw them puff out a lot more after a week or so and a Stronger feeding response

It’s anecdotal, but I think there’s something to this. My old tank was kept around 80, sometimes creeping above 80, and scolys would wither away on me. Now I keep it at 76-77, and they are nice and healthy and puffed up.

Agree it’s anecdotal but I’m a believer of this for my tank and glad to hear it’s helping you too.
