Dead bta?

i got this bta a few days ago- it arrived unhappy. It has not opened and looks worse today

Should I take it out and call it a loss?

The other bta I got is doing well.

Its not dead until its mush. Its very unhappy but alive. Give him some time maybe hell bounce back.

Imo if it stays like that and doesn't appear to improve I would run it through a cipro treatment. It's very easy.

I buy my cipro from allvets but you can also get it from a local veterinary clinic.

Looks like one. It has lost a lot of body mass.

I would leave it alone for the most part and watch it carefully. Have you tried to feed it? Show any feeding response? Sticky?

Are the clowns messing with it?

the clowns don't seem to notice it. I'm not sure if they know what corals are since they've been in a 5 gal tank since they were born, lol.

It's clinging onto the rock, so I know it's holding on. I haven't tried to touch or feed it yet, I wanted to give it time to settle

I do agree that it is a bubble tip anemone. It looks stressed and bleached.

I normally agree to let the coral be and do its thing but bubble tips tend to be on the more declining side once it starts to do that often. In regards of bubble tip anemones I believe in being proactive especially when they are acting like this one. The most difficult part is getting the anemone off of the rock without damaging its foot however. I would leave it be in that place however unless you had the cipro on hand but I have a feeling that the anemone is on its way out. I haven't had much luck once it gets to a certain point even with treatments.

On a side note, how bright is the light in that location? If the light is too high, it could very well be what is causing it to be so stressed out and the reaction you have been witnessing. Did you light acclimate the anemone? Also is this a wild anemone or captive? I am curious if you have any pictures prior to it being shipped and we can help determine what shape it was in before you received it.

Edit: So I just realized where you received your anemone from. I agree with what you said in your other post about TCD and the corals I received a year ago where very unhealthy imo. I wouldn't doubt it at all if the anemone is infected with some kind of bacteria and it explains why it looks so bleached to me. Although I haven't purchased anything in over a year from them I doubt they have had many improvements based off what I have read about them both on facebook and here.

Thanks for the post! I don't think I can remove it's foot, its really wedged in there. and I called 4 vets in my area and they won't prescribe Cipro. One of them thought i was nuts wanting to buy it for coral. I'll do a walk-in on one of the vets by my job this afternoon and see.

I have no idea if it's wild caught or not- it's not a WYSIWYG nem, no pics :(.

YW. Sorry I was later on my response. I know with anemones its a timing thing especially when they are on the decline. lol yeah some vets won't understand why we want it. Google allvets. It is an online site, I am not sure if i can post the site here, but they sell I think 20 tabs of 250mg of cipro for about 30 dollars shipped. That is where I bought mine from and a few others I know as well. Some people are lucky though and are able to buy it from their local vets.

I wouldn't doubt it was wild from there supplier. Unfortunately I don't know their whole set up from the supplier or the place you bought it from but from the information you gave me I would error on the side of its wild, hasn't had any treatments, and most likely hasn't been with them for too long. That being said, it's just my imo since I am a little jaded from my experience haha...

How high up is the anemone sitting? 50% might still be too high if its directly under the light and pretty high up. I have a feeling its more stressed from everything else though than the light but I don't know the par its under right now so I assume higher than lower.

it's close to the bottom of the tank.

The other BTA I got from them is doing well, which makes me think it's not my tank. Water params are all good (don't remember on top of my head, I am at work). The other BTA they said was "ultra rose", but it's not. Figures. I don't know what it is, lol.

I guess it was doomed before it even left their shop.

I saw the other picture. Hard to tell but it looked like a green base with possibly red tentacles? My best guess is a rainbow but the picture I saw wasn't full clear. How does that one look though?

That "ultra red" BTA looks great, health wise. Fully opened. It opened as soon as I put it into the tank. Moved to a happy spot and hasn't moved since then.

I'll take a pic when I get home. I am happy with this one, even though it's not an Ultra Red.

If you can try cipro, I would. You will need a separate tank and it takes a lot of planning/time making fresh sw everyday.

Honestly, you received a bad specimen. It will take time if it recovers.
