Dead Clam

No more clams for me. I purchased a Tahitian Maxima two and a half weeks ago and it is already dead. I had him under leds and water parameters are excellent. All of my other corals are doing great. I am done with them.

Sorry to hear Mike, but I urge you not to give up on them. The Tahitian Maxima's are know for poor survivability rates. Maybe try a Crocea or a Squamosa.

I was in the same boat, now I've had a squamous for about 6 months. Try his advice also the bigger they are the more hardy they are

dang sorry to hear about that man... I know it sucks but you shouldnt give up! There are many alternatives to tahitians. Like skinz said try a crocea or squamosa even a maxima. Pretty much all clams are relatively easy other than the tahitians...

Wow sorry for the bad news but crazy thing is I too bought a clam thta died a few weeks later no more clams for me thats for sure

Bummer!! I wouldn't give up though. I had a derasa for a few months and out of the blue it died. I believe my angel was to blame. Now, I have a 5" derasa that is thriving and a crocea.

It really depends on who you buy the clam from and how long they have had it for. I know from first hand.

Tahitian Clams are very strong and they live very long in a tank just as other clams do.

This is a myth that Tahitians don't do well in a reef aquarium.

Haha send me some that WILL live and change my mind. I've had six of them, 3 large ones and 3 cultured, all died within a month of me having them. The last 3 were the cultured ones and whatever they had wiped out every clam in my tank including a blue Squamosa.

It's not that the clams are "bad clams", it the practice on which the vendors are selling the live stock. As you know a very large percentage of vendors buy, import livestock, and quickly sells them to the end buyer as fast as they can. That way the end user takes the loss. There is a lot of stress on the poor live stock. I always keep my livestock from 3 months to 6 months. They are qurantine, watched, and acclimated. When they are back to health and the colors are crazy amazing. Then maybe then I would consider selling them. Lol
