Dead coral skeleton... What will grow over?

So I have a few skeletons in my tank, and closet, but that's another story...

Are there any corals that would grow over the skeleton?

I've had dead corals for 2 years that were covered in algae then all of a sudden they came back to life and flourished.

No kidding?! I don't want to remove them because they're full of life and the fish love hiding and exploring in them... but I was hoping something would encrust over them or grow and attach.

There are tiny specks of green left here and there... so fingers crossed that something might grow back. :)

Mine were as dead as could be. I left them in there thinking something would encrust over them too. They just got covered like my rocks then one day, I saw a tiny bit of color and as time went on they completely rebounded.

Same as before? (i.e., same color and everything?) Thanks for giving me hope! These "melted" when I left a neighbor in charge of my tank for a few weeks. So I'd love to see them revive. If not, hopefully something else can use their skeleton! :)

First color was dull. It was like they were fighting through the gunk that had covered them. Then the color brightened up like normal.

But I did have a large birdsnest like yours too in my tank that I just got tired of so I donated it to my LFS and started fresh with some new acros on top.

might not be a popular option, but I'd almost be tempted to throw a piece of GSP on that and see what happens :o

Thats what i was wondering. Something like an encrusting chalice or Monti etc .. maybe even mushrooms.

Ha, you're right, it would take over in no time! I have a giant colony of Xenia that I bought about a year ago. I can hardly keep it contained now! :)

The gsp would tend to jump from one branch to another and fill the gap. It would end up as a big ball. That's my experience.

Leptoseris or any encrusting sps would be more appropriate.
