Hello everyone,

I'm having trouble deciding what to spend money on that I wasn't expecting to get. I have an extra
$400-600 to spend on my tank and I really dont need to get livestock for it so decided to put the money towards upgrading equipment on my tank.

About my tank, its a 120 gal tank, with a eshopps sump (have a lifereef i'm replacing it with, along with a new M2 return pump for it) running 2 Ai 26s for lighting, 1 2k gyre, a 3yr heater (which was used, i should really replace it), and a lifereef skimmer. The AIs are about 2ish years old, got them used but was only used for 3 months before i got them, the gyre is about 3ish yrs old.

Easy ... don't fix what ain't broke ... so don't throw money at upgrading gear if you are already happy with the tank you've got and your livestock is healthy ... save you $$ for a bigger tank!

I voted heater because in my opinion heaters should be replaced regularly. But a heater(s) shouldn't cost what you have to spend so get the heater and save the rest for a future upgrade.

I do have an ATO, it works well enough for me.

Anyone have suggestions on a good heater?

I use the eheim Jaeger. It uses a bimetal switch to turn on and off, like the safety on a hot tub.
Set the heater temp a couple of degrees above temp, say 80.
Set the inkbird for 78, where it normally will control.
If the inkbird fails on, the ehiem will turn off at 80.

Funny enough the heater in my tank is an eheim

Then get the inkbird and mp40.
I have mp10 in a smaller tank, puts out a lot of flow.

Get something that can be used in a future upgrade if you plan on upgrading, if the mp40s will work on the upgrade go for them now.

I vote heater because a heater failure can fry your tank in more ways than one.
