Hey Reef2Reef I am planning on building a reef in a 75 to 125 gal aquarium that i was hoping to be deep water reef or mesophotic reef biotope aquarium. If you all could provide fishes and other creatures that would fit this idea would be cool as I'm struggling to find information on what fishes are deep reef fishes.

Some dwarf angels inhabit that zone, such as multicolor, venustus, and multibar. The multicolor is far easier to take care of than the other two, so would recommend that if you're just getting your feet wet with Deepwater species. Purple and helfrichi fire fish also come from deeper reefs, so they would make a nice addition as well.
Finally, borbonious anthias inhabit deeper reefs in the wild, and would make for a nice centerpiece fish.

Just curious...why did you pick a certain habitat as a theme if you don't know if you like the fish and inverts in that habitat?...usually the interest is based on the organisms.

I have been very interested in the mesophotic reef zone and have studied it a little and just looking into getting an aquarium inspired by this unique habitat.

Swallowtail angels!

I do have to warn you though, if you stick to fish from only one type of habitat, they are more likely to share the same type of food and more likely to fight. At least in my experience. Most of these fish will be zooplankton eaters and some might not like each other

If we define “deep” as found mostly, frequently, or exclusively below 100ft:

(1) Black Cap Basslet (Gramma melacara)

(2) Most Genicanthus Angelfish (Melanospilos, Bellus, Watanabei)

(3) Purple Firefish

(4) Lavender Firefish (formerly the “Helfrichi” Firefish)

(5) Multicolor Angelfish (Centropyge multicolor)

(6) Colin’s Angelfish (Centropyge colini)

(7) Multi-Bar Angelfish (Paracentropyge multifasciata)

(8) Purple-Masked Angelfish (Paracentropyge venusta)

(9) Candy Basslet (Liopropoma carambi)

(10) Blotched Anthias (Odontanthias borbonius)

(11) Yellow Candy Hogfish (Bodianus bimaculatus)

(12) Mystery Wrasse (Pseudocheilinius ocellatus)

(13) Stark’s Damselfish (Chrysiptera starcki)

(14) Square Spot Anthias (Pseudanthias pleurotaenia)

(15) Red Striped Anthias (Pseudanthias fasciatus)

(16) Roaps subgenus Butterflyfish (most to least expensive: Declivis > Mitratus > Burgess’)

(17) Gem Tang (Zebrasoma gemmatum)- found in deeper water than most Tangs

(18) Randall’s Goby (Amblyeoteorsis randalli)- found in deeper water than most Shrimp Gobies

(19) Peppermint Hogfish (Bodianus sepiacaudus)

(20) Longnose Hawkfish (Oxycirrhites typus)

(21) Sunburst Anthias (Serranocirrhitus latus)

(22) Tilefish (Starcki, Skunk)

(23) Some Fairy Wrasses (Hooded, Golden Rhomboid)

(24) Plectranthias perchlets (most common is inermis)

(25) Blue Throat Triggerfish (Xanthichthys auromarginatus)

Just to give you some ideas. Fish like Royal Grammas technically aren’t “deepwater”, although they’re found below 100 feet.

The types of fish would heavily depend on if you did coral, the colours you’d be after and if you’d want active swimmers or calmer swimmers - also rock/cave dwellers or open water.
There’s so many out there, all of these are covered.
