Deep Reset, Reviving my 80 gallon lowboy.

Tank is looking really good today I decided to not do much with it.
I did get around to fragging the tall torch its been bothering me for awhile. I've been wanting to give all the heads a little moar breathing room so they can all grow up uniform.
Took a heavier blue fts during ramp up this morning and one at full blast when peak hours started.
Seeing the life come back in to a lot of different critters. Fish are super happy. Not seeing much nuisance algae or boogers wanting to start back up but we shall see.

I certainly want to link this in two of my threads: best of the best rip clean in the nuisance algae forum/preventative de-aging of the system via physical controls/reef dentistry and for sure the old tank syndrome is vanquished thread...you just reversed ots and the tank can only age now back cyclically and then of course you'll just whip it into compliance again one day/round and round for an indefinite, no limit reef tank lifespan


people will also see literally thousands of dollars in corals preserved without tedious dose and response/taking time rather it's done like a dentist would flush out and rasp a mouth pretty much all at once

an evacuation process, not so much an addition and wait process. we didn't have to 'hope' very much for the results, the results were already known before you started and they're the same results it'll be in a few years/repeat :)

you prevented lots of infection options by exporting like this, by removing mass vs dosing on top of it. it may not be a complete preventative across the board for maladies but it's the best base move you can possibly do to preserve your tank over the long haul for sure. can't wait to migrate some pics + your link into the threads. readers from nanos all the way up to large tanks can copy this safely

Hi @brandon429 thanks for stopping by! I knew you would appreciate the rip clean. Feel free to take and post whatever you feel folks will find helpful in your threads:D I had a hard time uploading step by step pictures of the process, a bunch didn't load and quite a few came across out of sequence. I'll go through my pix and see if I can put something together and send to you.
I definetely wasn't scared and don't feel like other reefers facing similar circumstances should be either. It's all about the approach, set up and using common sense and care for your critters through the process.
I cured my rock and entire first system using your rip-clean techniques. When done correct rip cleans are hands down the fastest and most efficient way to export what you don't want in your system:)

Tore it up today lol!
Hooked up the 5 micron sock and cleaned out my overflow box. Scraped it out and everything.
Grabbed the 1micron sock and went over as many surfaces I could to remove whatever detritus got stuck in crevices, the entire floor including the tile and corners. I really should have siphoned my surfaces the day after cleaning the rock. I did have nasties start popping up yesterday that were a little more noticeable today. No more slow playing I knew better. I'm going to try and get the rest of my frag plugs, pumps and all traces of nasties that I can see out of the system this weekend. My plan is to eventually get to the sump. Have no idea what could possibly be waiting for me down there haha.

It's getting there for sure. Starting to feel like my old reef again. Need to clean up a few plugs and miscellaneous rubble around the tank this weekend but for the most part she's clean. It's going to be interesting to see how the rock does in the next cpl weeks.
Also forgot to mention I did plug in my 32 watt UV last night. Bulb is a few years old but figured it couldn't hurt anything.

I think that will help sustain no joke I believe in them solidly, I havent spec'd 32 w to 80 gallons / not sure what the right measure is but its better than none thats for sure. UV after a rip clean is just a solid solid hammer to invasion control across all reefs, all the time, with zero harm risk is why I like it

I'll be honest it's been in the sump the whole time moving water. I ran the UV for probably the first 9 months to year after original transfer. Don't remember how or why I shut the UV lamp off but I always liked having it on for the shrooms and keeping nasties out of the system. Not sure on specs but I probably should get a new bulb and change it out. Not sure if you caught it but I did dose 1ml/ 10gallons into my 5 micron sock during both glass and rock cleaning process.
A few quick shots of the sump! I have serious turnover going through this system. Takes about 15 minutes to completely polish the water crystal with 5 micron sock after full blown rip clean.
