Define "grafted"

OK I know the basic description of a grafted SPS coral as in one that shows two very different coloration's in the base color. But how does a SPS become grafted? Is a grafted SPS man made or cross bread? ETC...

from what I understand the host coral ingests green pigment released by another during spawning and produces it on it's own flesh.

LOL I know this sounds stupid but I thought it was like grafting fruit trees which consists of cutting a limb from one certain tree and cutting a spot on a host tree and both cuts are at a certain angle, then you just use electrical tape and tape the cut branch from the first tree to the host tree and it will grow if you do it right. I have seen people get apple trees to grow cherry's etc...

So basically I was under the impression that one frag was glued to another and they became one.... But I knew it couldn't be true.

I don't think it has anything to do with one coral coming into contact with another. I know a few different people have their theories but Steve Garrett's green jacketed acro was no where near any green corals but he had a green stylo or pocci spawn and he believes a couple of his acros ingested what was released by the green coral and produced on its own skin...

Wow that's interesting. I would have thought it was like skins was describing. But it does make sense it would happen during a spawn. Hmmmmm great topic
