Consider that You will most likely end up changing /improving in the future. Lord I know I have ! Take your time plan carefully & enjoy the challenge & fruits of your work ! It really is a lot of fun.

Oh ya, thin wall pipe will work just fine. No need for heavy duty fittings .

That’s pretty much why I’m overthinking and trying to do what is best for the long term rather than getting away with cheap alternatives. Quite a few people have recommended that schedule 80 is an overkill and perhaps you’re right. Just unsure if I’ll be able to find the plumbing materials for what I need (bushings and those things) I guess the only initial idea for the use of schedule 80 would be to get my valves and whatnot to match the connections. Colored PVC seems easy to come by opposed to colored fittings

What kind of colored fittings are you looking for? I agree schedule 80 is really overkill, more fittings available in schedule 40

Was thinking something to match my sump.. but then again just ordered a skimmer with fluorescent green parts.. honestly just something more exciting than white. Not that white isn’t amazing to everyone that has it, just wanted to have my work stick out and be interesting to show off.

I know exactly what you mean, you could go with all green PVC the only thing you won't be able to get green are the adapters and valves but you can paint those

Very true. I think it all just comes down to the aspect of now how I want to design my plumbing / what sizes I need. I come up with a sketch then have more ideas added to it. Then have others suggest cooler features then I basically am all confused at the end of the day... still postponing stuff!!

formufit.com is where you'll want to go for all your coloured PVC needs.

Was thinking that in the back of my head. So now it just comes down to proper planning for my pipe size and where / what I want to include.. if I get out of the mindset of schedule 80 I just have a lot more on my plate unless my sketches are well thought out . What’s the most connections some people leave open for adding stuff?

So this is how I would do it if I could
My first tank

Because I have almost exactly what u are trying to do now and it stinks doing water changes (running triton) when I have to do them where before it was easy

The line that comes off for the manifold is very flimsy and makes it unbalanced

So I will be upgrading my plumbing soon and will be making the manifold off the 1 1/4 pipe I’m a straight line I will draw a picture that isn’t to scale but should get u understanding what I’m talking about

You can spray paint schedule 40 fittings any color your heart desires! I just did and they look awesome.

I second that, all the valve handles pictured on my set up are sprayed blue (try finding a blue handled gate valve! lol)

This is very interesting, so basically water flows at all the levels rather than having them flow horizontally? How will that effect the flow pressure? I have a varios 6 but then am concerned if water will even really start to go all the way up or what will really happen. It makes sense your manifold got flimsy, still a little confused on why the water changes are difficult tho.

Water changes are difficult for a couple reasons the manifold is in the way

Two if u dump ur water change water in the sump if u have a power outage ur tank will overflow as u can’t just open up the valve to change out water because ur sump will run dry b. So if you decide to add water while taking it out When u put the water in the sump and then u open up the valve the good water will go right out the valve so in essence no water change is being done

This is why t is hard and the pressure will only drop if u open up the valves for the manifold

Bringing up points I’ve never even heard of... so where’s should I put a water change valve?

about as fancy I get is clear glue ! LOL
I’m pretty much at that point buddy. Now I’m all messed up in regards to everything I’m over here trying to draw a sketch and am just completely struggling. Idk what sizes I should use or what even directions to go. Now I’m thinking it will make sense to t off my return and basically be able to shut off my sump when I do a water change ( I’m thinking probably wrong tho) I’m guessing I could turn a ball valve connecting my return pump and one from the output of my tank and then be able to do a water change after blasting down my rocks or whatnot.

How Can I attach 1’ vinyl tubing to regular pvc piping? Coming from my overflow to my sump drain?

The gray hose is what I had to use to get the water into my sump at the time(sumps stink under the stand)
And yes the empty one is what I used to drain my water I would close the drain going into the sump a lil so some water would divert to the water change side
