For those of you that degass with an air stone and brute container, can you do this with the lid on and a small vent hole or does it have to be widely open to air?

You want to maximize gas exchange - keep it wide open, and have air intake suck in fresh air if possible.

Can you degas source water before it is run through the RO or must you degas after it has gone through the RO?
You can degas/aerate at any point in the processing train. If you have things in your water like iron, or manganese for instance, be prepared for them to be oxidized and come out of solution when you aerate. Most municipal water won't have this situation.

What if you take a sample of water that has not gone through the water softener?

maybe this is as easy as bypassing the softener and going direct into RODI

What does that help with?
