I was told to run only blues on my lights(2 Hydra 26HD). Is this true? And how do I do this? Do I cut everything to zero except blues like below?

Why, Diatom feed off of phosphates mostly and silica.

Check you nutrient levels and Ro/Di filets before cutting light.

Ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, and tds is zero.

Do you use ro/di water?

As for your lights, yes that is how you run blues only.

Normal. Itll run its course. You would be better to run a bit of gfo to pull the silicates and blow off the rocks. Or buy a live sponge.;)

Whenever I have diatoms it can be attributed to recent substrate addition and the silica it brings in. IMHO more likely silica than nitrates. I have only ever got rid of my diatoms with increased water flow and patience until the silica source is exhausted.

Are you sure it is diatoms and not dinoflagellates?
