I’m cycling a new tank, and am wondering wondering, what can I do to prevent diatoms? I suspect they will be coming soon. Any tips? I really don’t want them.

PS: I’m cycling with live rock

Stats: Ammonia at 0 and nitrites at .25, I will be adding sand soon.

Just let them come and go. They feed off silicates that will be present no matter what you do and will go away on their own once they use them up.

They are a normal part of a healthy cycle and you just gotta live with some ugly times.

Just grow it: Have you ever added CO2 to your reef tank?
