Did my fish store send me the wrong coral

Is first pic wysiwyg? I see a 3 head torch, or 3 single heads that are placed adjacent. How many heads is your torch?

Next - very usually unless in extreme stress that a torch will lose all that color. But I only see your pics and not what you see in person. You would need an orange flip on lens to filter out the excess blue light and then your camera can better represent the in person coral colors
No it's not wysiwyg and I got a 1 head torch

Do you have a filter kit to take pics with? Blue light with a camera of any kind really makes it hard to see what the eye or orange or yellow filters see.

Post pics with filter and we can give a better input.

Symbiotic algae are mostly brown, that is why corals with high amounts of algae will turn brown.

Most of the color corals have comes from the fluorescent proteins they produce to modulate wavelengths of the light that they are exposed to. For example, they produce proteins that absorb high energy light at and beyond blue spectra and fluoresce it at a lower energy wavelength. Most common fluorescence wavelength is green because symbiotic algae (like land plants) cannot use green light for photosynthesis. So this allows corals to control how much photosynthesis symbiotic algae can do.
Interesting, I did not know that. I'm going to research that some more it's probably worthwhile to read about it. 🙂

If I can add one thing too, I’ve found torch corals always show better color from above rather than from the side. It may not be true in all cases but it seems to be the case in my experience.

Probably the same.

You can see how washed out the BTA looks in the photo.

I would also try to tackle the aiptasia problem before it stings the torch to death
isnt it a torch?
