Did this happen to anyone else?

This morning, I checked my email to find 26 messages, all of which were notifications regarding posts to different forums here on R2R.

The posts appear to be in Chinese language and when I click on them, I get the R2R page with the word "error" under the banner.

This is the second time this happened, the last was on Saturday morning last week.

It will be interesting to see if this happens again next Saturday morning.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I believe it's a spam issue that's being cleaned up.

Its a spam issue that is being worked on. A couple mornings ago I had almost 200 emails for the same thing. This morning I had about 20. The mods are aware of it and working on it :)

Possibly someone with a similar email login to yours, and they're putting in the wrong address? @dbl @jsker

I didn’t have any emails, but my notifications showed 39 when I logged into the website.

R2R is being hit with massive spam. You generally don't see it all, but this morning the chemistry forum had only 2 reef related threads in the first 13 pages of "threads". All the rest were spam. Once we see them and label them as spam, you no longer see them, but they can generate emails and alerts if you are set up for that.

It is a shame that we have to disable certain features/functionality because of the issue. And this is only the first time that such a problem has occurred for me since joining R2R. Will disable email and alerts.

If you got a ton of emails and alerts, and are not a mod, then it may be because you watched a forum that got hit by spam. maybe first just unwatch any forums. :)

The only forum I watch is the tank emergency forum. I think it is important to actively monitor this forum. If that forum did get hit with spam, I'd rather put up with the emails rather than not be available to help someone with a time-sensitive issue.

It did. On the first 4 pages, nearly all of the threads are spam. You just cannot see them. :)

I don't think that has anything to do with it. I'm on a local city forum that has maybe 2 posts a day and it is constantly getting hit with pages of spam wanting us to buy fake passports or click here to watch this soccer game.
