Can these kills corals? I have one of these in my tank iv been trying to seek help and so far not much help. My birds nest coral is having its polps melted off and what looks like it tips bleaching on it and other sps. Birds nest the worst. I blow it off the birds nest but seems to appear befor my eyes like it is growing rapidly. I shut off lights today did a 20 percent water change. Nitrate is 20 phosphate .1 all other peramiters seem normal getting a new test kit friday to make sure. Suggestions. Please help. I can post pics later today or look at my earlier thread. https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/dinoflagellates.664380/#post-6722188

Sounds like cyano/ dinos.
Ive had great success treating cyano with API E.M. in my reef. and your phosphate should be brought down to .01 to .03. Your nitrates look fine.

Hm. Which test kit are you using?
I have a salifert kit and a red sea algae control kit which does a lower range nitrate and phosphate than the salifert. Its a lot better a pin pointing .02 vs .20.

Yea it tests for lower ranges. I can differentiate .01 vs .02 vs .04
I see I wish some more would chime in also as I am afraid my corals wont make it. have you ever had this happen and have sps token over and polpys melted/ receding and bleaching

Yup. Google it. Birdsnest ALWAYS the first to go. Youll always notice it on one species first. Others more resiliant. Ive had some LPS last thru 4 tank crashes!

Id leave it and focus on water parameters. Dont throw a bunch of products at it either. Let nature run its course. Let your tank stabilize and your coral might bounce back on its own.

No problem. Also make sure your RODI is at 0ppm, if youre not using high quality h20 your tank will suffer from things like this as well.
I was using store bought DI for a long time until i found it was actually at 4ppm and likely causing my issues. Ive since bought my own unit.
As far as snails go....giant mexican turbos are the way to go. They knock stuff over regularly but dang are they good cleaners. I bought 4 for my 40 gallon during a GHA outbreak and they made quick work of everything i couldnt pull out by hand. Algae was gone in less than a month without any products. (Was likely being fed off excess nutrients stored up in my rock after a tank refresh and sand removal)
Havent seen it since.
