I recently figured out that I actually have dinoflagellates and not cyano through quick researching. do you just increase nitrate and phosphate then dose bacteria and pods, or is there more than just that? do I still do weekly water changes or stop doing them? do I still run my protein skimmer or turn it off? I have activated carbon in my sump as of now, do I take it out?

What worked for me (having successfully beat it five times over the past 18 months):

No water changes. No dosing any aminos and trace.
ID what dinos using a microscope.
Keep carbon for toxins released by dinos. I ran my protein skimmer as normal.
Dose phosphates and nitrates. Dose plankton and copepods. Dose silicates for diatoms.
Dosed Aquaforest life source. Dosed Microbacter 7. Dosed Dr Tim's waste away.
Run oversized UV sterilizer (at least 2 or 3x your total aquarium size if appropriate with the species of dinos).
Feed fishes constantly to increase nutrients.
Run a fleece mat in tank to attract free floating dinos and remove it when dark. Replace with a fresh one.
Use a siphon to suck the crap out as much out as possible.
I did not black out the tank or reduce lighting.

The key here is to create more biodiversity as you reduce the dinos present in your tank. I ran the UV 24/7 and yes it will destroy good as much as bad bacteria but if you can replenish more good ones faster than the bad ones replicate, you'll be on your way. This process took at least 3 months to beat completely.
