Hi I got my hands on a cheap microscope and wanted to find out what this stuff growing on my rocks is. It only really grows on 1 rock, and not the sand bed, I find it constantly gunks up my filter floss so I change that daily. In the last picture it is the fuzzy stuff on the right rock, it is much worse now than in that picture

my tank is around 6 months old and this popped up about a month ago, which ties into a bit after I started adding ab+

I thought using a uv light would eliminate it so when I tired doing just the uv light it actually exploded in growth

my parameters are
Ph 8.2-8.3 ph probe
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 1.0 - 0.5 with Hanna checker
Alk 9 with Hanna checker
Calcium 470-500 with sailfert
Magnesium 1500-1530 with sailfert
Phosphate 0 with sailfert kit

Beautiful tank so far! You definitely have a Dino outbreak and it looks to be maybe some type of hair alge but im not sure on that. Its hard to tell exactly what species of Dino without a more magnified photo.

Need pics under white lighting to fully confirm but looks like amphidium under microscope.
Also the blenny is awfully skinny- what are you feeding it ?

No worries about the blenny. That was pics from the day I got him. He is nice and fat now

After looking over the pdf from the first reply and under the microscope they were motionless Symbiodinium-like (Chrysophyte?) looks to be what they most resemble.

whatever it is, is caked on my one rock now from my vacation so when I get home I will report back with a white light picture.

indeed. search the forum for chrysophytes. They are seen and ID'd enough recently that people are starting to accumulate good info on them.

I had already begun my search and set up a plan of attack.
1. My tank is relativity low flow in that area. I read they prefer low flow so I added a power head
2. I have always had low phosphate. So I ordered neophos and I’ll begin adding slowly. About 1/4 recommended to reach 0.01-0.02 as I read they flake off and die when phosphate is in balance
3. I will order gfo and monitor them without adding. And will add gfo when other options are showing no improvement
4. Manual removal daily to eliminate its hold
5. Wetter skimmate to get rid of any within the water column

I removed the uv light I had because I thought they were dinos
