Does this name / description of the cationic polymer in Dino-X "polymer of N-methylmethanamine" distinguish that it is different from the one in Algaefix?
I have no reason to think they are the same cationic polymer. I'm just wondering if the name tells us they are different?
The einecs number for Dino-X (204-697-4) and the CAS number for algaefix (31512-74-0) don't seem to have any overlapping synonyms.

294-697-4 is the dimethylamine itself, not a polymer made from it. Confusing they would give that number.

I’ll look into this more when I’m on my computer instead of a phone, but in my opinion, the name given is incomplete and does not clearly identify a real thing.

Hey, we need an NMR.

I assume the product solution is not basic.

Yeah pH in the 6.1-2 range.

Lol at NMR. I just want to know if our algaecide choices in the hobby include two different cationic polymers.

The name is clearly incomplete. There is no polymer made from just dimethylamine.

It would be a terribly nonstandard way to start the name for polexitonium (polyquaternum 42), but it is not impossible for one to name polexitonium starting with the words “polymer of N-methylmethanamine…” and then leaving of the rest of the name that includes other parts of the polymer.

My money is on a different polymer where they also left off the remainder of the registered algaecide named “methanamine,N-methyl, polymer with 2-(chloromethyl) oxirane” which has a cas number of 25988-97-0. In simpler terms, it is a copolymer of dimethylamine and epichlorihydrin.it goes by the name Barquat PQ-2 and claims to be a swimming pool algaecide.

Thanks, Randy. Much appreciated.

For any interested, here's descriptions of the product from fauna marin.
Dino-X is a more current one, the older one was when it was known as "algea X"
