Dipping for Dino's?

I'm transferring some corals to my large tank before the GHA kills them. I think I also have Dino's, but only on 1 coral do I get the long strings. On my candy cane trumpet coral. I've read that h2o2 or rodi can be used to kill Dino's on coral. Are either safe on a trumpet or hammer/frammer corals?

I tried both rodi water and diluted peroxide and still transferred dinos. Dipping may kill the active dinos but don't believe it killed any encysted.

I've had good success with dipping LPS corals with H2O2 mixture (50/50) with tank water. I have also done quick freshwater dips with LPS corals as well. Freshwater (RODI) actually kills most dinos almost on contact by breaking their cell wall.

There's a good chance that if you have two tanks...they are already in both tanks anyhow. But, maybe the tank not showing dinos present just has a better eco-system to suppress them.

My other 3 tanks show no signs but that doesn't mean much. The big tank is just set up, so I'm sure it's the worst ecosystem but shows no signs, it is all new, nothing transferred. What I find interesting is that the Dino's are only appearing on my trumpet coral, nothing else. Snails don't appear to be dieing either, lots of GHA/bha

I scrubbed a few sps with reef dip mix and toothbrush but the GHA came back a few days later. Any clue if coral rx would do better? Ive had bad luck with coral rx in the past. Maybe I'll keep scrubbing them with toothbrush.

Coral Rx won't do anything for algae... just pests.

With a 50/50 mixture, maybe 5 min at most should help a lot with LPS. The coral will be ticked afterwards for a few days.

Be careful with the toothbrush on the coral itself... can damage the skin.

If really concerned with the plug, remove and use a new one.

Ok, thank you. I'll give that a shot tonight. I've removed most plugs that I can and put new ones on. I boil the old ones and use them in the future, same with shells.

I had to frag out my Cali tort and purple Stylo since algae really put a hurt on them. Now I've got like 10 frags of each I have no clue what to do with.

You had NO success at all ? all cases you transferred Dinos ? low salinity, fresh water and H2O2 dips ?

I had a bad case of dinos and used vibrant and it worked great for me. This is what i used if you want to give it a go yourself

I ran some testing when I was struggling with dinos and was considering a full reboot. I set up a qt tank to tranfer corals into and was utilizing a microscope to look for evidence.
First tried s low salinity dip (not straight freshwater but 1.008 -1.009 sg) followed by diluted peroxide dip, I belive 50/50 but don't recall ecactly. I found active amphidinium in the qt tank after the dips but noticed coolia/ostreopsis cysts which I believe were still viable afterwards as well.
I tried straight freshwater as well and it seemed to work better on the amphidinium but it killed the acros I tried it on with a 30 second dip. LPS and zoas handled it better. Still believe there were viable coolia and ostreopsis cysts though.
Thanfully my tank is all good now.

How did you finally transfer corals and beat Dino's? Just a super short explanation would be helpful in my quest. I believe I just have the ones that form stringers, and they only form on 1 coral, nowhere else do I see them.

I ended up not transferring and doing a full reboot. Instead, I installed an oversize UV (114 watt on a 270 gallon tank) which quickly took care of Ostreopsis, Coolia and Prorocentrum. Both small and large cell Amphidinium faded over time.
