Diy chaeto reactor size

There are 2 reactors I'm looking at. One has a 2.5 in barrel one has 5 in barrel both are the same height. My tank is 55gal. I just need something to help my tank go from ok water to great water. Can't always change the water when I need to. Would one be better than the other?

This is one of those things where bigger is better.

In theory, the more chaeto you can grow the more export you should have. Also in theory, the bigger reactor should give you more time in between maintenance
