Hey All! I was going to try my hand at making some DIY fish food. I picked up some raw shrimp, scallops, tilapia, and tuna from Aldi's. On the back of the raw shrimp it says the ingredients are shrimp and salt. Will that salt be okay? Along with the tuna on the ingredients, it says it has filtered wood smoke and citric acid. I had just looked at the contents and not the ingredients. Will these be okay to make food with?

Hi @Cody000125!

The small amount of salt in the raw shrimp should be just fine for making fish food. Most fish will consume food with some salt content naturally and since it's being diluted it should minimize any impact.

As for the tuna with filtered wood smoke - I'd avoid using it because the wood smoke contains compounds that aren't typically in a fish's natural diet. Even though the citric acid is generally safe in small amounts, I'd recommend sticking to the raw scallops and tilapia as your base and possibly finding another source of tuna without any additives if you want protein variety.

Good luck with you DIY food project!

I also would suggest staying away from wood smoked salmon. Too many unknowns and normal salmon is generally easy to get.
