Hi Guys,

I made a DIY HOB Refugium using Fluval C3 filter.
Which one do you think is better, no. 1 or no 2?
No. 1
Pros : the chaeto will get all the light
Cons : MT will get some of the light from refugium

No. 2
Pros :
- The media box prevent the light from refugium to get into the tank
- prevent chaeto to get into the tank
Cons : Some part of chaeto that beneath the media box will not get the light ( the second pic )

2nd red light in a display can give you an algee bloom. I would limit the light getting into the display as much as possible. The cheato will be okay with a little less light you can flip the cheato periodically so that the bottom of the cheato ball/mass gets the light. Eaither way will work. Just one might grow algee in other spots not just the cheato.
