Hey there. I'm pondering the idea of getting back into reeding and I love the idea of having a controller with a do
It set of LEDs. But I've always wondered what a set of DIY LEDS costs to make. Does any one have experience with this?

This depends on how many leds you want. The amount of leds depends on the size of your tank (length, depth, width) and what kind of corals you want to keep.

Check out LEDGroupbuy.com and RapidLED.com. You can get an idea there on pricing.

It's a 55 gallon tank. I've owned leds and t5s, metal halides over my old 4'x8' frag tray. But I was thinking I could build a set for a fuge and small frag tank in the sump

DIY LEDs give you complete control.

There is a lot more like specific bins and drivers. But at least you will end up with a fixture thats safer and more efficient than an EBay Import.

I personally like and will admit my bias to the BJB solderless connector. With this you can easily swap out an LED at any time to upgrade or change the look.

Some complete LED Arrays are very promising.

Your 4x8 foot frag tray is something similar we did back in the golden age of fragging....
