Randy said he’d try to make some DIY recipes, but I’m very skeptical of its reproducibility.

I tried making standards, but the batch required different masses each trial. Stirring time, water purity, solid consistency, and air exposure make a huge difference in the standard outcomes.

The best way IMO is to calibrate your probe with trustworthy kits, then make your own batch by adding specific chemicals until you achieve the goal pH, then store it in airtight containers. You’d use your calibrated probe as a guide instead of a textbook recipe. That’s Randy’s initial recommendation which you can find here:

May I ask a question. I bought Hanna pH calibration liquid, big bottle. Then i saw the instruction to only use in 3 months after open the cap. Currently it exceeds that timeline. Should I keep using it?
Will it actually be out of date this soon. I saw no precipitation or anything inside the bottle.

The pH 10 can drop in pH as CO2 enters. PH 7 not so much and pH 4 won’t.

I’d personally use them longer. Our pH requirements are not exacting. I used my large bottles for years, and once in a while I got a new packet, calibrated, checked the bottles, and used them at the slightly revised values (such as pH 9.91, 9.86, etc.).
