I am planning on building my own stand based on the common construction plans that I’ve seem to find everywhere. For the 4 beams of 2x4 that dictates the stand height I want to replace them with maybe 1x4 in order to achieve a little bit more room that I would need from front to back to fit my sump. Everything else would remain the same with normal 2x4. It’s my understanding that the main support would be the pieces wedge between the top and bottom frame and that the four studs on inside are only for the height. Would this be possible without compromising my stands integrity for my 100 gallon glass tank?

If you support the center I do not see a problem, the 2x4 give the support without a center brace:)
