Do emerald crabs molt?

And if they do, when they do, is it the whole body/shell? If not then I have a dead crab :cry:

Yes.

It could definitely be a molt.

They molt the whole body and legs. Open the shell up and look to see if it’s empty; if it is and doesn’t smell bad it’s a molted shell. It can be hard to tell on the small ones.

So I opened it up and it was empty but at the same time full of pods. Not sure what to make of it. I didn't see any way the crab could have exited the molt. I'll do a midnight check to see if I see him.

It’s what all exoskeleton types do. It can be a trip to see but rest assured it is a very good sign that the specimen is healthy and your tank is in a decent place.

I took a full-molt to the office and left it on people’s desk, like the old rubber cockroach gag. :)
